Showmars Celebrates Two Charlotte’s Best Honors in 2026

Thank you, Charlotte! Showmars has been named Best Lunch Spot for the second consecutive year and earned Silver for Best Overall Restaurant in the 2026 Charlotte’s Best awards, presented by The Charlotte Observer.
These awards are determined by community voting, which makes this recognition especially meaningful. It comes from the people who stop in for lunch, bring their families for dinner and continue to make Showmars part of their everyday lives.
“Being recognized as a Charlotte’s Best for a second year in a row is especially meaningful as we look ahead to celebrating 45 years in Charlotte,” said Dean Peroulas, CEO of Showmars. “From the people who have been with us for decades to the families and new guests who walk through our doors today, this recognition reflects the relationships that have made Showmars part of everyday life in this community. We’re grateful to everyone who continues to make us part of their routines.”
Our story began in 1982, when Greek immigrant George Couchell, known to many as “Mr. C,” brought together the Greek flavors he grew up with and the Southern dishes he came to love. That combination continues to shape our menu today, from our Famous Pita Burgers to our Famous Fish Sandwich.
Our connection to Charlotte also reaches beyond the food we serve. Through support for local nonprofits, youth sports and education programs, we’re proud to give back to the communities that support us. That includes our longstanding partnership with Greg Olsen’s HEARTest Yard. In 2026, the HEARTest Yard + Showmars 5K celebrated its 10th year, raising $115,000 to support children and families affected by congenital heart disease.
As we prepare for our next chapter, we’re also investing in the people who help move Showmars forward. Three team members have stepped into new leadership roles: Greg Photopoulos as Chief Operating Officer, Tommy Racano as Director of Community Affairs and Ari Ziogas as Director of IT Initiatives. Their new roles reflect our commitment to developing talent from within.
With our 45th anniversary coming in 2027, we have even more to look forward to. For now, we’re celebrating these honors and the guests and team members who make them possible.
